Imperfect Utopias

We live with opposition and polarisation in our day-to-day lives. How might visual art, music, and theatre help us to imagine ways of living together, despite knowing we may never agree?

Imperfect Utopias is an innovative multi-arts online exhibition that immerses visitors in a series of artist-led workshops exploring polarisation around gender and sexuality in Ireland, Great Britain and Canada.

Imperfect Utopias draws from phase two of the Beyond Opposition research: a series of artist-led workshops conducted in 2023. The workshops brought together people with a range of different positions on genders, sexualities and abortion, subjects which are often the sources of division and polarisation.

Participants worked together to respectfully imagine utopian spaces in relation to gender, sexuality, and abortion, without attempting to debate the issues or to change one another’s minds.
